My Domains and What They’re For

Some days I just get tons of ideas, and the first thing I do is research some decent domain names I might be able to get. I thought I’d jot these down here, and I’ll try to keep it updated. Suffice it to say, I should never get bored.

Almost all of these domains lead to self-hosted WordPress sites.

bethykaiser.com

Registered this, set aside for my oldest daughter.

champaign150.com

This isn’t mine. It is the City of Champaign’s, for a celebration site no longer being updated. The celebration is over.

citywebtheme.com

I blog here daily in an effort to help local government maintain useful websites.

countywebtheme.com

Same concept as citywebtheme.com — Not live, as I want to focus on citywebtheme.

doomsdayfiction.com

To be a more targeted fiction site of mine. All stories here share a doomsday theme. The world is coming to an end, and sometimes it’s saved — other times it’s not!

engine42.info

My QuestionEngine concept, taken to the web, breaking down big questions into easily-answerable smaller questions. May add prediction markets to the mix. Pie-in-the-sky goal is to answer any question in the world.

fourchapters.com

Originally tried to write stories restricted to four chapters each. Now it’s a home for some occasional fiction, haiku, and vocabulary that I like.

freakingid.com

This was my personal blog. Then it became a downer as I started to get depressed. Life is awesome now, so the tone has changed. My online handle for AIM, YIM, online gaming, WordPress.com, and many other things is “freakingid.” This came about in the year 2000 when I was trying to find an available Yahoo account username, got frustrated, and tried “freakingid.” That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. I’ve thought about how it could apply to the Id, as in Id, Ego, Superego, but that’s just not where it originally came from. will be keeping this for a long time.

froghelper.com (expired)

This was going to be all about Frogs. I’m letting this expire. We let our bullfrog, Sammy, go to the wild at Anita Purvis Nature Center, after raising him from a wee little tadpole the kids got from a homeschooling class.

geekpals.com

A domain I got for use as a social site using the WordPress p2theme.

goodfountain.com (expired)

A site I had featuring beautiful water fountains and waterfalls from around the world. I could kick myself for letting this great domain expire. For awhile it was used by one of those keyword-stuffing sites, and now it redirects multiple times until getting to a yellowpages.com site. What a waste!

goodhowdy.com

Social network that helps strangers meet new people by throwing them into groups, possibly giving them tasks to complete. I started with the WordPress p2theme, and am customizing from there. Geekpals.com was registered at the same time, for similar reasons. The concept for goodhowdy.com, though, has evolved into treasureteams.com.

goodlearning.com

This is my “Learn about free software” screencasting site. I’ve had this domain since 1999, when I started developing educational software.

goodwonders.com

A blog about things in life that are just overwhelmingly wonderful and cool and amazing. I got the idea while thinking about Venus Fly Traps. I’d like to post weekly, but this is not a priority, and I haven’t really gotten started..

gwenart.com

This is my daughter Gwen’s Art for Charity site. We don’t do much on it now, but I don’t want to push her. It will be here for her if she wants to use it.

gwenkaiser.com

Registered this, set aside for my daughter Gwen if she ever wants it.

kidkaiser.com

This was supposed to be a photo showcase of the kids. I’m not actively working on that, but I’ll keep the domain because it is cool.

oldandbroken.com

A photo blog of old things. I haven’t actively started this.

oldbroken.com

Just goes along with oldandbroken.com

paulekaiser.com

You are here.

My personal blog. Ideally, this is my home on the web, my non-resume resume. I don’t update it enough.

paulseviltwin.com

I just thought it was funny to register this one. I have no plans at this time. I registered it one morning at 2am, thinking I might use it to rant on things, in a generally negative way. I don’t feel negative often enough in life to keep a blog like this populated, though.

paulswebshack.com

This is my web design portfolio site. Specifically web DESIGN. I will hold on to this and put any new designs I do in there. I do not keep this updated that much, as for now I’d rather focus on development than design. I have more to give to the development community than to the design community.

structureweb.co

This started as my web development site. Using dot-co was a bit mistake. It’s too bad structureweb.com, structuredweb.com, etc. are all taken.

structurewebdev.com

My WordPress web development site, for plugin information, announcements, and support. This is the dot-com version of structureweb.co.

townwebtheme.com

Same concept as citywebtheme.com.

treasureteams.com

Site for world-wide scavenger hunts. I want to host photo scavenger hunts, encouraging people around the world to sign up, meet new people, team up, and have fun competing to complete scavenger hunts. This site uses the WordPress p2theme for participants to communicate and post their findings. The real-time nature of p2theme also allows spectators, so the scavenger hunts become sort of an online reality show, with fans and foes. I’m putting together a Kickstarter campaign so I can afford more robust hosting before trying to launch this big time.

usualstory.com

Originally this was to be a site with biographies of regular people, messages they would send back in time to themselves if they had a chance. After I started to get this going, I found StoryCorps, which I think is fantastic and similar. Usualstory.com is not currently updated.

willowkaiser.com

Registered this, set aside for my daughter Willow if she ever wants it.

wordpresscity.com

This was to be my “How to use WordPress” screencasting site. Then, WordPress Foundation said I couldn’t use the domain because it has “WordPress” in it. That bummed me out, so I just dropped the idea. I just write tutorials for NetTuts and goodlearning.com now.

xanderkaiser.com

Registered this, set aside for my son Xander if he ever wants it.
