Water Everywhere

Wow, have I been having a lot of fun with water lately!

Just in the last few years, while taking Gwen to swim lessons, I decided it was finally time to “get over it” and learn to swim. Pretty darn cool, even if I am 40 already.

We have an 18 feet diameter pool, with 4 feet of water in it, and I love it. The kids are growing up without the fear of water I had, and they’re all going to be decent swimmers. I’ve been able to work on my rhythm and stuff, too. 18 feet isn’t quite long enough to really swim, though. I’ve been eying some 40 foot ovals, which is the largest that could fit in our yard.

When I was a kid, I watched Jacques Cousteau and read all sorts of ocean and water exploration books. For some reason, that’s all coming back to me now, and I’m having a blast pondering how wondrous ocean life really is.

Finally, I bought some new, short, wide-leaf plants for the 29 gallon freshwater aquarium. That tank has been taken over by Sunburst Platys, who reproduce more than rabbits. It’s nothing like the 10,000 gallon personal aquarium I saw on YouTube, or the 6 million gallon Georgia Aquarium, but it’s still cool.
